Calling emerging composers!

Calling emerging composers!

8 April 2021

The artistic committee for Choral Connect ’21 warmly invites student and emerging composers to submit scores for a composition workshop to be held on the final day of the conference, Saturday 17th July.

Five compositions will be selected by our guest composer, David Hamilton, to be workshopped by Karen Grylls and a choir formed from the Auckland members of Voices New Zealand Chamber Choir. Two of these compositions will be performed that evening in our final concert.

The work should be scored for an SATB choir of 24 singers and be 3-5 minutes in duration. Composers are encouraged to submit an a cappella work, although submissions with accompaniment, including piano, will be considered.

While there is no restriction on the date of composition, preference will be given to recent compositions or those that have not yet had a public performance. Composers are responsible for ensuring the text is free from copyright restrictions.

The selected composers will be required to register for the conference. A special day-rate for Saturday only will be available. Composers outside of Auckland will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation.

Composers will be asked to submit a PDF of the score, as well as a short biography and programme notes (100 words max for each). An additional audio or Sibelius file can also be included, if available.

To submit a score, email a completed Score Submission Form, along with the specified attachments, to choralconnect@nzcf.org.nz by Tuesday 1st June 2021.

For any questions or assistance with your submission, please contact the Artistic Programme Coordinator for Choral Connect, Jono Palmer: jono.palmer@nzcf.org.nz.
