Funding

See the 'Funding applications' section of our Young Person's Guide to Starting a Choir for guidance on writing a funding application.

As a non-profit organisation, the New Zealand Choral Federation is grateful to its funders and sponsors who provide financial assistance towards the running of our services and events. NZCF particularly wishes to acknowledge the significant support of Creative New Zealand, the Ministry of Youth Development and Tour Time.

Choirs are reminded that Creative New Zealand offers funding opportunities through its Creative Communities Scheme, run in partnership with city and district councils around the country. Applications are made directly to your local council and closing dates vary. Go to your local council website and search for ‘Creative Communities Scheme’ to find an application form, application guide and closing dates (local councils have up to four application rounds per year).

Creative New Zealand has a range of opportunities for organisations and groups with a long-term vision or purpose. Application details and closing dates are on the CNZ website.

Choirs may also apply for funding to national and local charitable organisations for a wide range of items, including venue and music hire, music folders, uniforms, fees for performers, marketing costs, travel. The Creative NZ website also has a list of other sources of funding.

On 12 August 2020, NZCF hosted a funding webinar with two of Creative NZ’s arts practice directors, Rose Campbell (Music & Opera) and Briar Munro (Community & Youth). They offered a wealth of information on which funding streams are best-suited to community choirs and how to make a successful application. The webinar was recorded and is available in video form here.
