Hamilton Civic Choir has performed choral music at the highest standards since its inception in 1946. The Choir’s passion for sharing the thrill of live choral music has remained steadfast throughout its long, proud history. And indeed, this Choir enjoys a reputation as one of New Zealand’s finest, having travelled to New York in 2018, the World Choir Games in Auckland in 2024, and recently being invited to London in 2027.
With 2026 marking our 80th Anniversary, we bring you a celebratory concert- Tiakina Te Reo Waiata- Keeping the Song Alive. Sharing a range of the choir’s favourites. Repertoire ranging from the 1800s to today, bringing you Brahms, Bruckner, Mendelssohn through Peter Angeła, Ola Gjeilo, Stroope, NZ composers Robert Wiremu and Takerei Komene and more!
There’s sure to be something you will love as we demonstrate the evolution of the choir to its modern form with 60 choristers, a 50-year age range, and singing in multiple languages under the baton of Elise Bradley MNZM and piano accompaniment by Francis Cowan. The main event begins at 7 pm in the Cambridge Town Hall, and will be followed by celebrations with a cake, piano bar, and some fundraising activities—a Silent Auction, a raffle, and the sale of musical notes which when “sold out” will be the final song of the night! And if you can’t make the concert, you are welcome to come along for the festivities from 9 pm.
