Hastings Choral Society warmly invites you to attend this Workshop by Conductor, singer, composer and teacher William McElwee. William has had a busy and varied music career both in NZ and UK. Currently he is Director of Music at St Mary of the Angels in Wellington and Youth Philharmonic, Tauranga. William has conducted The Mikado, Les Misérables, Bay of Plenty Symphonia's concerto competition and is Choral Master with Days Bay Opera.
He studied classical voice at the New Zealand School of Music under Richard Greager and Margaret Medlyn and conducted with Ken Young. He has appeared as an operatic soloist with NZ Opera, Eternity Opera, Days Bay Opera, and appears regularly in concerts.
This workshop will provide guidance in some of the main challenges and opportunities in rhythm in choral music, including establishing a unified rhythm, subdivision, syncopation, popular music and rhythm, changing meters, and the role of the Conductor.
This workshop promises to be a warmly inclusive and interesting day, along with meeting and sharing times with Hastings Choral members. You will be made most welcome, so we look forward to seeing you!
