Waitakere Voices Choir: Between The Lines

This concert poses a simple question: Between the lines of music and interpretation, what happens to music once it leaves the composer’s hands?

Some songs say exactly what they mean. Others become something far bigger, or stranger, than their creators ever intended. Songs become symbols of protest or identity, and audiences hear messages that may or may not have been intended.

This programme explores music whose meaning has been shaped, reshaped, projected onto, or transformed by listeners, culture, history, and context.



The choir and soloists will present music by:

Mozart, Fauré, Sibelius, Verdi, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Billie Eilish, Joy Oladokun, as well as traditional folk music pieces.


Pieces will be sung in English, French, Italian, Bosnian, and Icelandic.
