To Sing: A poem on the joys of making music
22 Jul 2024
After delighting us a couple of years ago during a COVID lockdown with a poem about Zoom rehearsals, longtime NZCF member Julia Banks has sent us a poem about the joy of singing, and all that effort and anticipation that goes into creating "that perfect note"! Thanks to Julia for this poem, which you can enjoy below.
To Sing
- Julia Banks
What happens when a singer sings?
The spoken voice attains its wings
You take a breath - your inspiration
A joyful rush... anticipation!
In your mind you place each note
To rise, pitch perfect from your throat
Your lips are parted to embrace
Sweet notes which blossom from your face.
The tip of the lips, the teeth and the tongue
As partners form what's to be sung
Your mind, your heart, your very soul
Are striving to attain one goal -
That perfect note. And then one more,
Then note on note on note to soar
So sweet, so sure, so well sustained...
Until that final note's attained.
