Regional Representative and Board nominations

28 Feb 2025

#

Are you passionate about contributing to the growth and vibrancy of choral music in Aotearoa? We're seeking nominations for our newly established Regional Representative positions, as well as for members of our Governance Board.

Read on for descriptions of the new regional roles, nomination forms, and details of our AGM in May. Nominations for Regional reps and Board members close on Thursday 20 March.

Call for nomination of Regional Representatives

We are pleased to introduce the position of Regional Representative in each of our ten regions - this is a new role from 2025. The Regional Representative will act as a liaison between choirs and singing groups in their region, fostering a strong and connected choral community.

The Regional Representative will convene at least one forum or hui each year, where members and representatives from all choirs and singing groups within the region will be invited to provide feedback, suggestions and ideas about events, activities and professional development they'd like to see in the area.

The Regional Representative will be a member of the National Advisory Council (NAC), contributing their local perspective to the development of NZCF’s nationwide strategy. This is a voluntary position, for a 3-year term.

Click here for a more detailed outline of the role of the Regional Representative.

Those standing for the role of Regional Representative must be nominated and seconded by a current Personal Member or by a member of a Member Choir. Members may only vote for a Representative in their own region.

If there is only one nomination in a region, that person will be deemed to be elected to the role. If more than one nomination is received, an election will be held. The results of any election will take effect from the close of the NZCF AGM.

Call for nomination of Governance Board members

This year, our Chair, Warwick Harvey, will retire from the NZCF Board following seven years of service. In addition, three board members – Melissa Absolum, Igelese Ete and Karen Grylls - will complete their current 3-year term in May. Melissa and Karen have indicated their intention to stand for re-election, and Igelese will step down at the AGM. Pete Rainey (Deputy Chair), Kim Cunningham, Robin Randall and Raymond Tan will continue as Board members.

This means there are four vacancies to fill, with two current members intending to stand for election. We are now calling for further nominations. Ideally, the new nominees will have the relevant attributes or experience to take on our Pasifika and Youth portfolios. Nominees must be a current Personal/ACD Member or a member of a Member Choir.

If there are more than four nominations (including those of Melissa Absolum and Karen Grylls), there will be an election by poll, details of which will be emailed to all members and posted on the NZCF website. If not, Melissa, Karen and the other two nominees will be deemed to have been elected unopposed, and no poll will take place.

Nominations for Board and Regional Representative vacancies close on Thursday 20 March 2025.
The nomination form should be completed by the nominator, seconder and nominee. Notice of an election, if any, will be sent after nominations have closed. Please note that only current (paid-up) members (including Member Choirs, through their appointed representative) are entitled to nominate and vote for candidates.

2025 Annual General Meeting
