Kids Online Singalong 2021 - a video project for primary and intermediate school choirs

#

15 October 2021

Once again, many of our tamariki have missed out on their favourite music-making opportunities this year as a result of the changes in Covid levels. Auckland school choirs have been silenced again for much of Term 3 and many of our Kids Sing festivals in other parts of New Zealand have also been postponed or cancelled. We sincerely hope all our choirs will be able to sing together again at some stage next term.

While we can’t currently plan large gatherings, we do know we can work online. NZCF is pleased to partner again with MENZA (Music Education New Zealand Aotearoa) and the New Zealand Music Commission for the second year of our virtual choir project, Kids Online Singalong.

We’re inviting primary and intermediate school choirs to learn and make a video of Aroha I Aotearoa the winning entry in this year’s Hook, Line and Sing-A-Long competition written by 14-year-old Anna Feillet from Otago Girls’ High School. Some choirs will have already learnt the song, so will have a head start already. Our deadline for videos is 26 November and once we’ve received them all, we’ll create a massed virtual choir from all the footage to share on the NZCF YouTube channel before the end of Term 4. Check out the 2020 Kids Online Singalong video.

It’s easy to take part!

  • All the resources you need to learn the song are below:

Full track
Instrumental
Lead Sheet
Chords and Lyrics
Projector friendly
NZSL full track
NZSL instrumental

  • Please see the following instructions on how to achieve the best video & audio quality:
    • If using a phone or tablet, be sure to film in landscape, not portrait
    • Make sure the conductor stands behind the camera, so that the children are not obscured
    • DO use the backing track so that your recording is in sync with everyone else’s, but make sure it is not too loud. Point your speakers towards the children, not towards the camera and set the backing track level no higher than is necessary to keep your singers in time and in tune
  • Once you have filmed your entry click here to fill in the form and upload your video.
  • If you have further questions, email the NZCF Events Manager Emma Billings: emma.billings@nzcf.org.nz
