Choral Connect programme finalised

Choral Connect is just six weeks away and we’re pleased to finalise the programme schedule and to announce the remaining presenters.
A reminder that delegates will have the option to attend the conference in person at the Dorothy Winstone Centre in Auckland, or live-streamed online. Each session will be recorded and available to delegates to watch later, if preferred, and we hope that the online option will enable some to attend who might otherwise find the travel and accommodation costs restrictive.
While many of the workshops will focus on the theme of The Choral Traditions of Aotearoa New Zealand, there will also be a number of broader choral presentations on offer, plus one-to-one opportunities to refine your gesture and/or explore questions related to choral pedagogy. Plus, each day will conclude with a vibrant concert featuring a wide array of performers!
Presenters
We are thrilled that Catrin Johnsson will return to Choral Connect to lead a discussion on ideas around creativity, including two models of creative thinking that can be useful for all who are involved in creative work. Elise Bradley, Musical Director of the Toronto Children’s Chorus, will give a presentation that looks at ‘The Conducting Toolbox’ – a journey inside the choral process, looking at philosophy, pedagogy, and a number of tools that aid musical outcomes.

Performers
Adding to the list of performers, our Friday concert will end with the chamber choir Viva Voce, under the direction of John Rosser. Our final concert will open with a performance by taonga pūoro player, Horomona Horo, who will also give a workshop earlier in the day.

Masterclass with NZSSC
We are looking for five of our more advanced conductors to participate in the Masterclass with Karen Grylls and the New Zealand Secondary Student’s Choir. Interested delegates should fill out the Masterclass Submission Form and submit it by 18 June to choralconnect@nzcf.org.nz.
One-to-one Sessions
While we are not able to offer the popular Conducting Strands this year, there will be a number of ACD committee members and presenters who will be available for one-to-one sessions with delegates. These sessions could focus on gesture or any other aspect of choral pedagogy that is of interest. Details on how to sign up for one of these sessions will be made available soon.
Composer Workshops
Delegates will also have the opportunity to observe artistic director Karen Grylls and guest composer David Hamilton work with Auckland-based members of Voices New Zealand Chamber Choir, as they workshop a number of compositions by student and emerging composers.
