Last month NZCF East Coast hosted The Kids Sing at Iona College. It was a wonderful day of singing, showcasing primary and intermediate school choirs adjudicated by Jane Pierard.
Hereworth School’s Les Jeunes Choristes were judged Best Choir, and the St James Chapel Choir from Hereworth won the Adjudicator’s Choice Award in the Full Primary (Years 1-8) category. The Haumoana Senior Choir won the Contributing Primary (Years 1-6) category, and the Haumoana Junior Choir (pictured) took out the Adjudicator’s Choice Award in the same category. Congratulations to everyone involved in this fantastic event.
September will see two more The Kids Sing events, in Auckland and Palmerston North.
Auckland, 13-14 September
30 choirs will take part, involving more than 1000 primary and intermediate-aged children from across the Auckland region. This year, due to challenges with rehearsing in Term 1, The Kids Sing will be a non-competitive festival. During daytime sessions, choirs will present a recital comprising two pieces of their own choosing. All will receive constructive feedback from commentator Vanessa Kay. The sessions will begin with vocal warm-ups and a run-through of the massed item, Pokarekare Ana, which will be performed at the end of the evening gala concerts. The galas offer each choir the opportunity to showcase one of their songs, and will finish with a presentation of certificates for each of the participating choirs.
