The choirs of the Nelson-Marlborough region took to the streets on Saturday 21 February for the NZCF Summer Sing Fest, and it was a resounding success!

Choirs performed in 1903 Square and in Kirby Lane, creating a vibrant atmosphere in the city.

Blessed with a beautiful summer’s day, hundreds of people gathered in town to enjoy the festival, alongside the bustling market and Victus Café’s renowned coffee and delicious food offerings.

Sing Fest Nelson 2026 8This year’s programme showcased an impressive variety of performers. From Birchwood School’s dynamic Kapa Haka group (right) to the ever-popular Plinkers ukulele ensemble, who delighted the crowd with familiar favourites. There was something for everyone.

The Top of the South Community Choirs (featured above) brought extraordinary energy to the stage, with around 100 singers representing six choirs: Haven, Inakord, Mosaic, Sunday Gospel, Waiata Koha and Zing. Audiences were treated to music spanning
cultures and languages, highlighting the richness and diversity of
our region. Several performers even travelled from the West Coast and Golden Bay to take part.

Other highlights included Kath Bee, who led café guests in a joyful community sing of her new song, the angelic harmonies of Nelson Bays Harmony Chorus, as well as memorable performances from Tasmonics and La Corale. The day concluded on a high note with Off Your Rockers, who had audience members up and dancing in the square.

Beyond the wonderful music, Summer Sing Fest also provided an opportunity to support local businesses, including Victus Café and the food trucks of Kirby Lane. Our sincere thanks go to Nelson City Council and Victus Café for hosting us and helping make the day such a success. We look forward with anticipation to bringing Summer Sing Fest back to Nelson in 2027.

Thanks to Event coordinator Jodie Freeman for her report on this successful and happy day!
