Christchurch workshop brings together conductors
30 Apr 2024
NZCF Canterbury-West Coast's workshop on April 6 & 7 brought 18 keen conductors together to hone their craft.
Over the two days, Dr Karen Grylls advised participants on conducting gesture and 'tips of the trade'. The participants then put their skills to work at the helm of either the Christchurch Youth Choir or the Cecilian Singers in masterclasses that were open to the public.
Jared Corbett, workshop coordinator, said a real highlight was "having so many conductors and singers from across Canterbury in the same room, and seeing connections being made." Participants were thrilled to work with a conductor of Dr Grylls's calibre and experience, and called the workshop "informative", "inspiring", and "helpful for conductors at all levels".
Thanks go to Karen Grylls, the Christchurch Youth Choir and the Cecilian Singers, collaborative pianists Singing Lin, Christopher Eldridge and Sarah Kang, All Souls Anglican Church and NZCF Canterbury-West Coast committee members for their contributions to a productive weekend of skills development and music making.
