CHORAL WORKSHOPS 

Manawatū-Whanganui Giving Direction
 

 

What: Giving Direction in-person conductor training for Manawatū-Whanganui choir conductors. This will be led by Rowan Johnston, Music Director of NZ Youth Choir.

When: 6:30pm-8:30pm on Monday 29 June

Where: Hall at St Peter’s Anglican Church, 229 Ruahine Street, Roslyn, Palmerston North 4414

Local community and school choir conductors are invited to sign up for a unique opportunity to get some in-person conductor training with NZ Youth Choir’s Music Director, Rowan Johnston. The training will include a general session on conducting and then an opportunity for each participant to conduct NZ Youth Choir for 10-15 minutes with guidance from Rowan. Conductors will be offered a number of pieces from NZYC’s current repertoire to choose from to conduct in front of the choir. All experience levels welcome.

Rowan Johnston (conductor)

Rowan  & Choir ResizedRowan is the Music Director of the New Zealand Youth Choir. He is HOD Music at Chilton Saint James School, where he conducts all the school’s choirs, and he directs the Wellington Youth Choir.
Rowan has previously conducted the Taranaki and Auckland Youth Choirs, was Director of Choirs at Auckland Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and HOD Music at Westlake Girls High School, where he conducted Choralation – the school’s premier mixed voice choir. 
Rowan has regularly been invited to conduct choirs at the Gondwana National Choral School in Australia and is a Choral Advisor for the NZ Choral Federation. An alumnus of the New Zealand Secondary Students Choir and the New Zealand Youth Choir, Rowan still sings in Voices New Zealand.
