In 2015 Stanley Barnes relinquished his role as the Region’s secretary. His service to the Regional TBS covers a period of 15 years as Treasurer, holding the dual position of Regional Coordinator from 2008 to 2015. He was a member of the Wellington Region Committee from 1988, serving as its Treasurer for 10 years, before transferring to the newly formed Manawatu-Whanganui Region when it was formed in March 2001 He became Regional Treasurer in 2008, an office he currently holds, and also carried out the duties of regional secretary from 2009 to 2015.
For many years he was pivotal alongside Roy Tankersley, the regional chairman in keeping the branch running through his dedicated and reliable attention to detail. Stanley has a national reputation in the NZCF as being amongst the most scrupulous of branch secretary/treasurers. His dedication sees him still attend national NZCF functions as often as he can. We are hugely grateful to Joanna Love that she was prepared to take on the secretarial work that Stanley has for so long carried out with such exemplary expertise. It will be reassuring to Stanley that he has been able to ease out of the role knowing that it is in good hands.
In September 2015 a dinner was held in Stanley’s honour at the China Inn restaurant in Palmerston North. The Regional committee and former committee members came together to mark Stanley’s relinquishing his involvement as secretary of the Region and his involvement with the Manawatu-Whanganui “The Big Sing Secondary Schools’ Choirs’ Festival (TBS).
