A new award given at the recent regional events, the Ministry of Youth Development ‘Spirit of the Festival’ Youth Ambassadors Award, recognises the ways in which The Big Sing offers development opportunities to students. School principals from participating choirs were invited to apply, explaining how their choirs encourage leadership, community participation, collaboration and innovation.
Each school received a certificate and $250 towards the choir’s musical programme.

Auckland – Peka Totara (One Tree Hill College)
Canterbury/West Coast – Hagley Singers (Hagley College)
East Coast – Celtic Heart (Taradale High School)
Manawatu/Whanganui – Pasifika (Palmerston North Boys’ High School)
Nelson/Marlborough – Ovation (Marlborough Girls’ College)
Otago – Dunstanza (Dunstan High School)
Southland – Northern Southland College
Taranaki – Jubilate Singers (New Plymouth Girls’ High School)
Waikato/Bay of Plenty – Mana Wahine (Hamilton Girls’ High School)
Wellington – Phoenix Chorale (Heretaunga College)
