RESULTS of the NZCF/SOUNZ Choral Composition Competition 2020

We are delighted to announce the results of the 2020 NZCF/SOUNZ Choral Composition Competition for secondary school students. The competition was adjudicated by renowned NZ composer, David Hamilton, who says he had a difficult decision with so many high-calibre pieces.

1st place: Georgina Palmer (Nelson College for Girls): “A Music Everywhere” .
2nd = place: Emily Gambrill (Rangi Ruru Girls’ School): “The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me” and Niki Sun (Westlake Girls’ High School): “The Smile“.
Highly Commended: William Squire (Westlake Boys’ High School): “Storm“.
Commended: Heloise Hildreth¬†(Nelson College for Girls): “Chariot of Fire” and Joshua Langford (Wellington College): “Agnus Dei.¬†

About Georgina’s winning piece David Hamilton wrote: “This is a very mature piece of writing…the piece is never less than engaging and interesting. Lovely melodic lines for all voices. This would be a joy to sing.”
Georgina’s piece “A Music Everywhere” will be performed and recorded later this year and will be uploaded to NZCF’s YouTube channel.
