Auckland Youth Choir is a 90-strong unauditioned, mixed voice choir of singers aged 16-27. The choir performs a wide variety of repertoire and aims to offer young singers a place to challenge themselves with a broad musical and choral experience. The choir was set up in 1984 to bridge the gap between school and adult choirs and has had huge success with innovative performances and large membership growth since.
The choir performs a number of times a year at St Matthew-in-the-City. Other notable projects have included tours to New York and Sydney, performing the NZ premier of Paul Mealor’s Passiontide Symphony, commissioning works from several NZ composers, singing at the Silver Scroll Awards and singing annually at the Auckland War Memorial Museum on ANZAC Day.
As a part of the Development and Mentoring Project, AYC also has an auditioned chamber choir and annually appoints a Young Composer in Residence, Emerging Conductor and Emerging Accompanist.
The choir is governed by an elected committee of primarily singers in the choir.

Auckland Youth Choir is proud to present a night of superb contemporary choral music with its latest concert “The Hope of Loving”.
Featuring a selection of works from world renowned composer Jake Runestad, a modern mass setting by Nico Muhly and commissions and works by talented composers within the choir, this is a night not to be missed.
From the soaring melodies of “The Hope of Loving”, to the heart wrenching harmonies of “Let My Love Be Heard”, Runestad’s acclaimed work will take listeners on a journey that fuses traditional and modern choral sounds to create astounding results.
The choir will be joined by soprano Dr Morag Atchison, baritone James Harrison, the Jade String Quartet and organist Nick Forbes.
Join us at St Matthews-in-the-City on Saturday 20 August for a night of spellbinding choral fusion and excellence.
