The Auckland Girls' Choir was formed in 1998 to cater for a community need to establish a choir involving girls from approximately 8-16 years of age.
The girls come from the greater Auckland area and represent many different ethnic and social backgrounds.
Entry to the choir is by audition where both oral skills and musicality are assessed.
The choir has performed regularly in concerts and on occasions with the Auckland Boys' Choir, the Auckland Youth Choir and the Auckland Choral Society.
During 2004 the choir made its first CD recording, and was honoured to be invited to sing for Danish royalty at a Civic Function and performed in Queensland & New South Wales. In 2006 the choir accepted an invitation to open the Auckland concert of Hayley Westenra's NZ Tour to a capacity audience in the Aotea Centre. In 2007 they recorded for TVNZ's Praise Be programme and performed with Dalewool Brass in the Town Hall.
Since 2008 the AGC has performed on Rememberance Sunday at the Museum and for the Armistice day Ceremony on the 11 November, One highlight in 2009 was the privilege to be part of the Andre Rieu Concert held in Vector Arena.
2010 highlights include the opportunity to sing with Gina Sanders in a program titled Seasons of Song; and invited back to perform at the Auckland Museum as part of Remembrance Day and Armistice Day celebrations. In December 2010 we were part of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra Christmas Concert held at Holy Trinity Cathedral.
In 2011, we were privileged to be part of the Rugby World Cup celebrations where we performed at the Cloud.
In 2012, we performed with the NZ Pops Orchestra in the Auckland Town Hall. 2013 will be bringing exciting events to the choir families with a tour to the Festival of Voices in Tasmania planned.
