Association of Choral Directors
Auckland / Member choirs / Pohutukawa Singers

Pohutukawa Singers

The choir came to life in 1993 as a night class at Kaipara College in Helensville. Under its original name 'Pro Voce" the group grew to a small choir for mixed voices, singing mostly a cappella or with piano accompaniment. The repertoire comprises a large variety of both sacred and secular music from the 16th to the 21st century. It includes madrigals, motets, folksong arrangements, carols, jazz, gospel, as well as contemporary music by New Zealand and Australian composers. Over the last few years we have also occasionally joined forces with other choirs to perform some larger works - the Faure Requiem, Haydn's Creation and Mendelssohn's Elijah. In addition to regular concert performances around North- and West Auckland, the choir produced a CD in 2004 with a selection of music from different eras.
In 2014 the choir had a change of musical director, and again late in 2019. We are based in Albany and continue to grow in both numbers and strength. New members are always welcome.
