The New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir returned last week from a wildly successful tour to British Columbia, Canada. The two week tour included 10 concerts, all receiving standing ovations.
“I knew that you and your ensemble would be spectacular…..but oh my goodness, NZSSC was out of this world! You have left the deepest of impressions on both Powell River, and our 1000 guests,” wrote Paul Cummings, Artistic Director of the Kathaumixw, to Andrew Withington, NZSSC Music Director and member of the Kathaumixw jury panel.
The Kathaumixw attracts competing choirs from all over the globe and as the 2016 invited Guest Choir, the NZSSC shared concerts with many of them, and was lead in massed choir concerts by international conductors including the enigmatic Sanna Valvanne, presenter at Sing Aotearoa 2009.
Following the five day festival, NZSSC toured on Vancouver Island, winning hundreds of fans among both billets and audiences with their kiwi charm and passionate performances highlighting many New Zealand composers.
Reaching the end of their two year cycle, the 2015-2016 NZSSC will present one last concert at the Big Sing Finale (Saturday August 27) before making way for the 2017-2018 choir with auditions running September 26 – Oct 4.
