Recently the Manawatu/Whanganui’s The Kids Sing was held in the Prince Edward Auditorium, Whanganui Collegiate.
Four choirs from Manawatu and six from the Whanganui area took part in the festival.
Shannon School Choir and Feilding Intermediate School Choir won Silver Awards and each choir received a Special Award – Shannon School Choir for Best Stage Presentation with their item Splish Splash. Feilding Intermediate won the award for Best Performance of a New Zealand work, Welcome Home, by Dave Dobbyn.
St George’s Special Choir received a Bronze Award and the Mosston School Choir won the Adjudicator’s Special Award for Excellence for their presentation of the William Byrd classic Non Nobis Domine.
Rutherford Junior High School Choir received the award for the best choir soloist and Te Awa Kids Choir won the award for best choir instrumentalist.
Following the recital given by each of the ten choirs, a massed sing of the nearly 300 young voices was led by visiting adjudicator and children’s choir expert, Megan Flint.
