We’re pleased to announce a further two concerts at this year’s Choral Connect, in addition to the final concert on Saturday 13 July at St Mary of the Angels, featuring the Toronto Children’s Chorus and New Zealand Secondary Students’ choir. On Thursday 11th and Friday 12th we’ll be showcasing a total of six choirs from the Wellington region in evening concerts open to the general public.
Our first concert will feature three children’s choirs: Wellington Young Voices, Kelburn Normal Lyrica Choir, and our conference hosts, St Marks Schola Cantorum Choir. The three choirs will participate in a workshop with our choir-in-residence, the Toronto Children’s Chorus in the afternoon, and will each present a 20-minute recital at the evening concert on Thursday 11th July at 7:30pm.
The second concert, on Friday 12th July at 7:30pm, will feature three mixed-voice choirs: the early music ensemble The Tudor Consort, Inspirare, and Supertonic. Further details of all the choirs are soon to be included on the Choral Connect Choirs page.
Both concerts will be held at the chapel of St Mark’s Church School, 13 Dufferin St, Mount Victoria, Wellington and are free for delegates. Door sales will be available for non-delegates.
Advanced Conducting Strand and Masterclasses
Among the key components at Choral Connect are our Conducting Strands, in which delegates have the opportunity to develop gestural and rehearsal techniques in a smaller-group setting with one of our fabulous Conducting Tutors. These strands are based on ability and experience, and are designed for everyone from absolute beginners to more experienced conductors.
Another major module for conductors is the series of six Masterclasses, in which selected delegates have the opportunity to gain professional feedback on how a choir responds to their gesture. At Choral Connect ’19, each Masterclass participant will have the opportunity to work either with Elise Bradley and the Toronto Children’s Chorus, or with Karen Grylls and the New Zealand Secondary Student’s Choir or the Delegate Choir.
Both the Advanced Conducting Strand and the Masterclasses have strictly limited numbers requiring early registration and the submission of a short video of the applicant conducting in rehearsal or performance.
