David Hamilton’s “American Triptych” has been awarded 1st prize in a competition for composers organised by the Stockton Chorale (California, USA). The contest, which received over 40 entries, sought a work suitable for a community choir and could also include a children’s choir.
The 15-minute work sets texts by three American poets (Henry van Dyke, James W Johnson and Walt Whitman), and is scored for children’s choir, SATB choir and chamber ensemble, and will be premiered in Stockton on 25 March 2017 in a concert alongside Rutter’s “Mass of the Children”.
When announcing the win, the Stockton Chorale said “It’s a truly inspiring score, and we can’t wait to dig into it”. They toured New Zealand in the late 1980s, singing in a concert with Auckland Choral – a concert David sang in.
Congratulations David on yet another fine achievement.
