Delegates at Choral Connect ‘19 will have the opportunity to rehearse a work and sing alongside two internationally acclaimed choirs – the New Zealand Secondary Students Choir (NZSSC) and The Toronto Children’s Chorus (TTC). NZCF’s Association of Choral Directors is thrilled to host both these prestigious youth choirs, who share a link through the Toronto choir’s Auckland-born Artistic Director Elise Bradley, a former director of NZSSC.
The visiting Chamber Choir, the Toronto Children’s Chorus’s top-level ensemble, performs in season concerts, gives many guest and outreach appearances each year, and regularly represents Toronto and Canada throughout the world. While in the North Island, the 39-member Chamber Choir will perform in Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, Palmerston North, and Masterton, in addition to participating in Choral Connect.
Recognized as one of the finest treble choirs in the world, the Toronto Children’s Chorus has built a musical education structure over the past four decades that includes sight singing, theory training, master classes and workshops with expert clinicians while offering exceptional performance opportunities and collaborations with other musicians such as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
The Toronto Children’s Chorus consists of eight choirs from ages 3 to 30: KinderNotes (ages 3-6), Preparatory Choir (ages 6+, auditioned), three Training Choirs, the Main Choir, a Boys’ Choir and the Toronto Youth Choir (ages 16-30). Their vast repertoire embraces diverse cultures and traditions and covers an extensive range of musical genres, including many new Canadian works commissioned by TCC.
STOP PRESS: The final concert at Choral Connect, featuring the Toronto Children’s Chorus and New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir will now take place at St Mary of the Angels in Wellington at 7.30pm, not the Cathedral of St Paul at 4.30pm as previously advertised.
