A 'challenging and inspiring' day

The 2016 ACD Giving Direction series has received enthusiastic feedback from participants and coordinators. The series was held this year during May in three centres, with day-long workshops in Tauranga, Palmerston North and Hastings.

Over the series presenter Karen Grylls lead a total of 140 singers representing nine choirs.  Three of these – Tauranga Civic Choir, Renaissance Singers and Four’s Company – are community choirs. Forty-one conductors, including three high school students in Hastings, took part in the intensive programme, with sessions covering gesture & alignment, score preparation and rehearsal technique. High praise was given for Karen’s warmth and encouragement: “she was fantastic”, and for the excellent organisation by the regional coordinators Sean Kelly, Roy Tankersley and the NZCF Event Coordinator, Virginia Warbrick.

Work is already underway for next year’s Association of Choral Directors national conference. Mark your diaries for ‘Choral Connect 17’ to be held from Saturday 8 to Wednesday 12 July 2017 in Auckland. Both the NZ Youth Choir and NZ Secondary Students Choir will be there.
