We’re delighted to release the next in our series of videos recorded at the 2019 Choral Connect convention in Wellington: Julie Wylie’s presentation Building Connections, Singing for Life in which she explains how singing, movement and rhythmic play activate every part of the brain and lay the foundation of music for life.
Julie is the founder of the musical play programme at the Champion Centre at Burwood Hospital, Christchurch, where she is the senior music specialist. She has her own music school for mothers and babies and children aged 0-8 years, and is Co-Director of a Postgraduate online training programme in Play Therapy and Musical Play.
In her presentation, Julie illustrates how singing before birth helps develop a strong musical relationship between mother and newborn, and contributes to emotional communication, wellbeing, cognitive development, tuneful singing and musicality.
A short clip from Julie’s video is below. The full one-hour video is on the ACD Video Channel, accessible to current ACD members via login and password. Directors of a Big Sing or Kids Sing choir have automatic ACD membership for the year in which they take part in TBS or TKS.
