Another Big Sing Finale is over, and 900-plus singers from 24 choirs, along
with their directors and supporters have returned to their home towns.
The three days’ event, beginning on Thursday 25th August, with the Opening
Ceremony and finishing after the Gala Concert on Saturday 27th, was held in
the historic Dunedin Town Hall.
The recitals were presided over by adjudicators, Debra Shearer-Dirie and
Michael Leighton-Jones, from Australia and Peter Watts from Auckland, with
Kelly-Ann Tahitahi as this year’s Auahi Kore adjudicator.
Their task this year was particularly tough. Chair of the adjudicating panel
Peter Watts, told Radio New Zealand’s Upbeat programme of the judges
difficulty choosing the top choirs, so outstanding were the performances.

Gold, Silver or Bronze Award, and a number of special awards. Of special
note was the awarding of the coveted Platinum Award, for a choir achieving a
mark higher than 90. This year this went to the Westlake Boys and Girls
High Schools choir, Choralation. The full awards list can be viewed here
The whole three days were live streamed to a New Zealand and international
audience of an estimated 96,000 viewers.
