Experience the emotional richness of Orlando di Lasso’s masterpiece Lagrime di San Pietro and the supreme talents of the Los Angeles Master Chorale in perfect harmony for one night only at Auckland Arts Festival on Friday 13 March. An achingly beautiful choral work, Lagrime di San Pietro was Lasso’s final and most famous composition.
Acclaimed as one of the world’s finest choral ensembles, Los Angeles Master Chorale takes Lasso’s polyphonic epic to a new level with direction by renegade theatre director Peter Sellars calling upon the 21 singers to demonstrate near super-human vocal skills to perform the profoundly moving cycle of 20 madrigals.
PLUS, you can join in the massed choirs at TWO FREE Auckland Arts Festival events:
TIRA is the FREE opening event of the Festival on Wednesday 11 March at Aotea Square. Join Hollie Smith and Hātea Kapa Haka to sing waiata including Hollie’s ‘Bathe in the River’ and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, both in te reo Māori. Open rehearsals are taking place in Auckland or just come along on the night.
Auckland Arts Festival and Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra are celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birthday with a full programme of events including the community play-in and sing-in Beethoven’s Big Birthday Bash on Sunday 15 March. Register and turn up on the day – there are still places for singers. The mass community orchestra and choir will rehearse together and then perform extracts from Beethoven Symphony No. 5 and Symphony No. 9.
