New Zealand concert tour by College Chamber Choir from USA
Music Celebrations International and Tour Time is pleased to announce the Allegheny Chamber Choir, from Allegheny College in Pennsylvania, USA is touring around New Zealand in May this year. Their 12‐day New Zealand concert tour begins in Auckland, and takes them to Whitianga, Rotorua,
Christchurch and Queenstown.
While in Auckland, Dr Karen Grylls will be working with the choir in a masterclass, before their first performance of the tour – a shared concert in Takapuna with Auckland Youth Choir (directed by Lachlan Craig). In Rotorua, Allegheny will perform an evening concert at St Luke’s Church, with the Western Heights High School Choir (Director Evelyn Falconer). Concerts at Knox Presbyterian Church in Christchurch, and St Peter’s Anglican Parish in Queenstown follow, along with a school choral exchange in Christchurch with Rangi Ruru’s Resolutions Choir (Director Helen Charlton).
Directed by James Niblock, the Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at the College, the Allegheny Chamber Choir is a select group of highly invested singers who are typically enrolled in voice lessons, perform with multiple ensembles, and engage in vocal chamber music concerts as well as solo recitals. This is the chamber choir’s first international tour, and the first tour to the Pacific region for an Allegheny ensemble.
We encourage local choristers and concert goers to join us at one of the concerts to make the most of this opportunity to hear a guest choir from the USA, along with our talented local choirs!
