Join Cantemus and Cantorum for an afternoon of Music for a Great Space, exquisite choral music from five centuries, composed for some of the most beautiful spaces in the world. The two choirs are joined by an outstanding ensemble of soloists – Luana Prictor (soprano), Jan-Marie Baughan (soprano), Sarah Harris (alto), Dmitry Rusakov (tenor), Iain Tetley (tenor) and Ben Jackson (bass) – and accompanied by international organist Janet Gibbs. The concert will be directed by Grant Hutchinson and Anita Banbury and is a fund-raising concert in aid of the restoration of St Luke’s church organ.

The programme includes Parry’s striking coronation anthem I was glad, Mendelssohn’s Hear my prayer (with the famous “O for the wings of a dove” solo, Mozart’s sparkling Organ Solo Mass, Monteverdi’s motet Beatus Vir performed by six solo voices, Cantique de Jean Racine by Faure and the moving Lord, thou hast been our refuge by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
St Luke’s magnificent pipe organ will also be heard as Grant Hutchinson plays JS Bach’s monumental Passacaglia and fugue in C minor and Hendrik Andriessen’s Theme and Variations.
